Current developments in mobility behavior are increasingly bringing cyclists and e-bikers into the focus of research. Our bicycle simulator allows us to investigate a wide range of issues, from infrastructure design to rider behavior, that arise from current challenges in the bicycle sector.

The goal of bicycle research is not only to sustainably improve traffic safety, but also to increase the acceptance of bicycles, pedelecs and s-pedelecs as a means of transportation by all road users. For this purpose, technical, traffic planning and psychological aspects have to be harmonized. Bicycle simulation makes it possible to evaluate the effects of different infrastructures on safety, behavior and acceptance, as well as to identify accident risks. Dynamic situations allow a deeper understanding of the behavior and interaction with other road users. Other relevant issues are operation and display concepts for bicycle computers and rider training. We can compare cyclists with and without motor assistance and derive possible consequences for action.

The right test environment for any every research question.

Accurate. Reliable. Effective.

Research into the safety and comfort of cyclists has become much more important since the beginning of the 2020s. In order to bring our methodological expertise to this field, we have designed and implemented several bicycle simulators. Currently, we operate a bicycle simulator that can be used for classic bicycles as well as for pedelecs and s-pedelecs thanks to the driving dynamics developed in SILAB. We also offer to validate the bicycle simulation by real rider tests with test bikes for research and development purposes.
