SILAB is the driving simulation for your driving simulator - and much more. In addition to the simulation environment, SILAB provides all the tools you need to design the route, including all events and road users. Our software allows you to precisely define the trigger criteria for the test scenarios so that they can be created reliably and reproducibly according to your requirements. It is even easier to use ready-made scenarios that are already included in SILAB. The large number of interfaces allows the integration of additional hardware (e.g., eye trackers) or software (e.g., vehicle dynamics models). After the test, all recorded data are available in one place for evaluation, synchronized in time. Key research and development applications include:

  • 01SILAB/SOFTWARE Scenario design  

    City center – country roads – highways. Realistic or a training area? Anything is possible in SILAB! The SILAB model library contains a large number of objects for realizing your test scenarios. Programs that are constantly optimized in cooperation with our users will guide you through the creation process.

     

    SILAB provides very efficient methods for creating scenarios. Create 100 kilometers of highway in seconds with a single text entry. SILABAEdit supports complex scenarios with a graphical user interface and drag & drop.

    Functions such as semi-automatic import from OpenStreetMap/OpenDrive, supported decorations and additional views facilitate route construction. You can access the large model library (> 3,000 objects), which is constantly growing thanks to current developments and customer feedback.

    A special feature of SILAB is the dynamic database. Predefined route segments can be flexibly combined during the drive instead of following a rigid geographic map layout. This can prevent an important test scenario from being missed due to a wrong turn, or present appropriate scenarios based on the success of previous test scenarios.

     
  • 02SILAB/SOFTWARE Modular approach  

    When planning a test, not all details are known at the beginning. Thanks to the modular structure of the software, adjustments can be made quickly and easily. Need to integrate a different system, add data acquisition, change the route, add a new vehicle? No problem at all.

     

    SILAB has a modular structure. A simulator study ultimately results from the interaction of the individual Data Processing Units (DPUs), each of which provides exactly one function, e.g., the representation of a navigation system.

    Starting from the basic configuration of the simulator, you can make the exact adaptations and extensions that correspond to your new research question. The DPUs can be flexibly combined with each other. This makes it easy to implement different conditions and test designs.

    Depending on the version, completely new DPUs can be programmed to meet the individual requirements of the study.

     
  • 03SILAB/SOFTWARE Interfaces  

    There are many established measurement tools and specialized software solutions on the market, so why reinvent the wheel? SILAB thrives on its extensive, flexible interfaces to subsystems and integrates the data from them. Only the synchronized interaction of data from different sources generates a comprehensive data set and thus new insights.

     

    SILAB thrives on the diversity of topics that are processed by our users. SILAB provides a large number of interfaces for all these use cases.

    Native interfaces allow the integration of various systems such as eye trackers, motion platforms, steering motors or cameras. The additional availability of generic interfaces allows the connection of almost any system via TCP/IP and UDP sockets, vehicle bus systems (CAN/LIN), Bluetooth or BLE and serial communication.

  • 04SILAB/SOFTWARE Customizability  

    Some projects require the use of special graphical objects or new interfaces. Other projects require the highest level of confidentiality. SILAB offers a wide range of extension options. This allows you to independently implement solutions without involving third parties into the process.

     

    Openness to changes, adaptations and extensions is a basic principle of SILAB.

    Documented interfaces allow our users to extend the functionality of SILAB. Interfaces in C++, Java, Python and Ruby are available. The SILAB system APIs can also be used to access information from the simulation, the scenery and the database. Modules developed by you can be integrated into the simulation in the same way as the originally delivered modules and allow a significant extension of the functional range and the connection of arbitrary systems without the involvement of the WIVW - because your data belong to you. Import and integration of your own 3D models is made easy via detailed step-by-step tutorials.

     
  • 05SILAB/SOFTWARE Setup of measuring vehicles  

    More and more development is taking place in simulation, and we are happy to support you. However, not all tests can be performed in the virtual world. To ensure smooth and synchronous data acquisition with SILAB, we also equip real vehicles with measuring and test equipment.

     

    For certain questions, the answer in a specially equipped measurement vehicle is more meaningful than in a simulation. Equipping a test vehicle with the appropriate hardware and software is a challenging task that we have successfully mastered for many years.

    As in the case of driving simulator research, we also offer our expertise in the field of system integration for real driving studies. We can design the measurement technology you need and take care of the installation of additional hardware, such as displays or camera systems for eye tracking. We are also happy to advise you on the methodological study planning for your research question.

    All data recorded by the measurement systems are collected by SILAB – as in the driving simulator – and are then synchronized and available for analysis with the usual programs.
