- How often / at what intervals will I be contacted and invited to participate in studies?
Once we have received your completed registration, we will invite you at varying intervals to participate in our studies (real vehicle or simulation), online surveys/interviews or group discussions (focus groups) on various topics. The intervals at which you are contacted may vary from a few weeks to several months. Each time you are contacted (usually by email), you can decide whether you like to participate in the study or not. How often you are contacted depends on a number of factors (e.g. driving experience, participation in previous studies, etc.).
- How long does it usually take to participate in a study?
Most studies take between 1.5 and 3 hours. In some cases, they may last longer, or there may be several appointments for one study. In the latter case you would see us maybe 2 or 3 times within several weeks. When being invited to a new study, you will receive all relevant information, including the length of the study. On this basis, you can decide whether participating in a particular study is possible for you.
- What does "Expense Allowance" mean?
In recognition of your time and effort in participating in a study, you will receive an expense allowance, usually in cash. The amount depends on the study and will be mentioned in our study invitation email. Participation in the study does not constitute an employment relationship, therefore the lump sum compensation does not constitute wages and no income tax will be withheld. If any taxes apply, the responsibility to pay them lies with you. If the lump sum compensation constitutes a so-called "other income" according to § 22 No. 3 EStG, it is not subject to income taxes if the total of "other income" remains below the legally defined exemption limit. If the income reaches or exceeds the exemption limit, its full amount becomes subject to income taxes.
- When registering, what questions am I asked - and for what reason?
You will be asked for contact information, personal information (such as age and gender), and vehicle use information (such as frequency of bike rides per week). Also, for example, you will be asked whether you need any visual aids when driving. The main reasons being:
- Target group selection: Some studies require recruiting participants from a target group specified by the client.
- Applicability of measurement method: For some measurement methods not all people are suited. For example, in some studies the participants need to wear special glasses. Thus, only people who don't need to wear glasses when driving can take part.
We are aware of the sensitivity of all of our participants’ information and hold ourselves to the highest standards in terms of data protection. Our strict data protection policy at WIVW GmbH complies with all applying legal provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the country-specific data protection regulations.
